I have a dream that my husband and I go to his estranged fathers wedding. While we are sitting at the table with his father. I can feel the disapproval from his father. Our whole interaction with his father was about undermining my relationship with my husband. He did not like that I was at his wedding. Then my husband brother walks up and he starts making comments about me to my husband in front of me like I should know my place. I looked at my husband and winced and put on fake smile and try to deflect the conversation. Just then I noticed my husband aunt who came into the room but it didn't look like his aunt but someone I know from church. I excitedly got up to go greet her. As I approached I could tell something was wrong. We hugged them I noticed 2 tall Native Americans dressed in their Indian garb standing stoic staring at me. I got sense that they were holding her captive. So I turned aside and whispered I'm her ear are you alright? She said, no she was being held captive by these men. She asked for my help to escape. So I pretended to act like their was something I needed to show her and we abruptly left and quietly snook out the front door without those two men noticing. We proceed to head to the back of the building which looks like a house. As we walk through the back door I see my husband and his father having an argument about me and my husband marriage. His father proceeds to say to my husband that who is is not who he's supposed to be. All sudden the atmosphere changes and something inside of his dad is manifesting causing him to fall on the floor and convulse while verbally trying to curse my husband. My husband said, that he doesn't want that curse and he knows who he is and who he will be. Then just like that his dad stops convulsing and immediately has a heart change. Then I woke up.
Your dream contains rich symbolism and a narrative that reflects deeper emotions, conflicts, and dynamics in your waking life, particularly concerning relationships with family, identity, and the struggle for agency.
Setting of the Wedding: The wedding represents the union and bonding of relationships, yet in your dream, it also symbolizes tension and separation. It's significant that this is your husband's estranged father's wedding, indicating feelings of exclusion or disapproval from a paternal figure in your life or your husband's life. Such settings can evoke feelings of vulnerability, especially when familial dynamics come into play.
Disapproval and Undermining: The disapproval from your husband’s father and the brother's comments suggest feelings of being judged or undermined within your own relationship. This may point to ongoing family tensions or insecurities about how you are perceived by your husband’s family. The way you winced and put on a fake smile shows your desire to maintain harmony and protect your relationship, even in the face of conflict or negativity.
The Appearance of the Aunt: The transformation of your husband’s aunt into someone from your church suggests a blend of familiarity and comfort in a complicated environment. This could indicate your desire for support and connection from those you trust amidst familial strife. The sudden realization that something’s wrong further emphasizes that, despite a façade of normalcy, there are underlying troubles that may need addressing.
Native Americans Symbolism: The two stoic Native Americans in the dream might symbolize cultural heritage, history, or challenges that stand in the way of support and peace. Their role as captors reflects feelings of entrapment or external pressures that you or your husband may feel from familial expectations or identity crises.
The Need for Escape: The escape plan with your husband’s aunt signifies your instincts toward protection and finding solutions in difficult circumstances. The act of “sneaking out” represents the desire to avoid confrontation or to remove oneself from negativity—reflecting a yearning for autonomy and freedom from familial expectations.
Conflict and Transformation: The altercation between your husband and his father, particularly the father’s convulsions and cursing, suggests a release of pent-up emotions or generational curses. This could symbolize a confrontation of hidden issues within family dynamics, past traumas, and the conflict between traditional expectations and personal identity. Your husband's declaration of self-knowledge and rejection of the curse indicates a profound personal journey of self-acceptance and redefining his identity outside familial pressures.
Reconciliation: The sudden heart change of your husband’s father shows that transformation is possible, and it hints at forgiveness or the possibility for resolution even in the most strained relationships. This pivotal moment signifies hope and the potential for healing, both personally and within your family connections.
Overall, your dream reflects a complex interplay between familial relationships, your sense of self, and the tensions that can arise from differing expectations and identities. It suggests that while you may feel outside pressures, there is a fundamental strength in knowing who you are and in supporting your partner’s journey. Perhaps it is urging you to confront these layers in your waking life, advocating for both your needs and those of your husband, while also recognizing the importance of compassion and understanding towards others, even those who may seem adversarial.
